Dr. William Barry Turner, DPM, 65, of Hartwell, passed away on Saturday, January 12, 2019, surrounded by family and loved ones at St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens.

Dr. Turner was born in Montgomery, AL on March 28, 1953, son of the late Curtis William Turner, Jr. and Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Ray Turner. He was a U.S. Army Veteran having served as a medic. Following the army, he was a Registered Nurse before earning his Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine. Barry was owner of Turner Podiatry and Wound Care in Royston where he served his community as a leading wound care specialists and podiatrist for the past 20 years. He was a member of Price Chapel Church of God. A man who lived a life full of fun, Barry never met a stranger and was impossible to forget. “Granddaddy”, as he was known by his grandchildren who he loved deeply and was loved by them in return, enjoyed shooting bows, guns, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his two daughters, Gwendalyn Turner Levine and her husband Jason of West Palm Beach, FL and Cassandra Turner Lyle and her husband John of Jupiter, FL; ten grandchildren; sisters: Yonnie Wooddall Murray of Marietta, GA and Jill Turner Saunders of Greensboro, NC; several nieces and nephews; and fiancé, Teresa Finley of Canon, GA.

Memorial services celebrating his life will be held on Friday, January 18, at 11 o'clock at Price Chapel Church of God with the Rev. Johnny Stowe officiating.
