Mr. Thomas ‘Banks’ Childs, 85, of Brad Dixon Road, Elberton, husband of 65 years to the late Jo Anne Johnson Childs, passed away on Sunday, December 13, 2020, at Elbert Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Childs was born in Elbert County on July 24, 1935, son of the late William Edgar Childs and Fannie Mae Scott Childs. He retired from West Point Stevens In Calhoun Falls after 42 years of service, and along with his wife, was a farmer. Banks was a lifelong member of Woodlawn United Methodist Church.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Jo Anne Johnson Childs on November 19, 2019, and their only child and the light of their lives, Joseph Banks “Joey” Childs, on February 25, 2019.
Survivors include his grandson, Samuel Edgar “Sammy” Childs and daughter-in-law, Denise Josephine Saxon Childs, both of Elberton; and his sister, Jeweldine Childs Chambers of Winteville.
In addition to his parents, wife, and son, he is preceded in death by his siblings: Margaret Oakley, William Edgar Childs, Jr., and Essie Mae Childs.
Funeral services celebrating his life will be held on Wednesday, December 16, at 11 o’clock from the Woodlawn United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tim Adams officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Childs will lie in state at Berry Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 15, from 10:00a.m.-4:00p.m. and at Woodlawn United Methodist Church on Wednesday, December 16, from 10:00-11:00a.m.
Flowers are accepted and contributions may be made in his memory to the Woodlawn United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 3790 Brad Dixon Road, Elberton, GA 30635.
