Mrs. Agnes Frances “Ada” McGowan Sartain, 84, of Elberton, passed away Thursday, February 12, 2015 at her home.A native of Strabane, Northern Ireland, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Winniefred Mae Early McGowan.She was a graduate of The Convent of Mercy School in Northern Ireland. Mrs. Sartain was retired from Elbert County School Food Services.She has been a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church since 1971, a life member of Ladies VFW Auxiliary and a past member of The Elbert Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.She was preceded in death, in 1993, by her husband, Johnny Guy Sartain. A funeral mass was held Saturday, February 14, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Elberton with Fr. Dominic Tho Tran as officiant.Interment followed in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Royston.Bill Mills, Jr., Dean Sartain, David Sartain, Gene Sartain, Ben Sartain, Jeff Moore, Spencer Strong, and Anthony Terrell served as pallbearers.William ‘Sonny’ Sartain, John Lawrence, Bill McKay, Ray Dean, and Butch Ferguson served as honorary pallbearers. Survivors include four children and their respective spouses: Patricia (Alan) O’Bryant of Dewy Rose, Charles (Kim) Sartain of Athens, John (Pam) Sartain of Acworth, and Paula Sartain (Helen Springs) of Athens; six grandchildren: Emma O’Bryant of Augusta, Tyler, Connor and Katherine Sartain of Athens, and Savanna and Johnathan Sartain of Acworth; siblings: Joyce Kent of Mt. Laurel, N.J., Jim McGowan of Birmingham, England, Margot McAfee of Tunbridge Wells, Eng., Larnie McGowan of London, Eng., and Martin McGowan of Strabane, Northern Ireland; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Flowers were graciously accepted, and memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, c/o 1009 Benson St., Hartwell, Ga. 30643.
