Albert Kenneth McDowell, 63, of 1931 Lexington Highway Elberton, husband of Claudia Ruff McDowell died Wednesday June 16, 2010. Born in Elbert County he was a son of Fannie Ruth Brown McDowell and the late J.H. McDowell. He was a member of Goss Baptist Church, a retired mail carrier from the Elberton Post Office where he was employed for 20 years, he was a former Elberton Police Officer and a Elbert Co. Sheriff's Deputy, and was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Vietnam War. Survivors include his wife of the home Claudia Ruff McDowell, a daughter Denise Scarborough of Elberton, GA and a son Ken McDowell of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, his mother Fannie Ruth Brown McDowell of Bowman, GA, sisters Laverne Massey, Barbara Ann Webb, and Linda Scott all of Bowman, GA, brothers Pat McDowell of Tampa, FL, Billy McDowell and Ronnie McDowell both of Bowman , GA, four grandchildren Cody and Alex Scarborough, and Shane and Abby McDowell. Funeral services will be held Saturday June 19, at 3PM at the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Meeks and Staci Spivey officiating. Burial will follow in Elmhurst Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-3PM just prior to the service at Berry Funeral Home and will be at the home 1931 Lexington Hwy. Pallbearers will include George Wade, Rick Brady, Richard Brady, Adam Brady, J.M. Thomason, James Ruff, Lane McCannon, and Bill Skelton. Flowers are optional and memorials may be made in his honor to Goss Baptist Church. Berry Funeral Home is in charge of the funeral arrangements for Mr. Albert Kenneth McDowell
