Mrs. Alice Rogers Acker, 92, of Elberton, Georgia passed away Thursday, March 1, 2018 at Nancy Hart Nursing Center. Mrs. Acker was born in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, daughter of the late James D. Rogers, Sr. and Nettie Blum Rogers.She was the wife of the late Nathan H. Acker, with whom she had celebrated over 73 years of marriage prior to his passing in 2016.Mrs. Acker was also preceded in death by two brothers: James D. Rogers, Jr. and Alfred Rogers; and two sisters, Elizabeth D. Meditz and Lucretia Montgomery. Mrs. Acker graduated from Georgia State Women’s College at Valdosta, and taught school for several years.She also worked as a Kindergarten teacher’s aide at Falling Creek Elementary for several years.Mrs. Acker was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Elberton. Mrs. Acker is survived by her children: Dr. James D. Acker and his wife, Debbie F. Acker, of Alma, Colorado, Robert W. Acker and his wife, Debbie Y. Acker, of Henderson, Nevada, and Harold N. Acker of Augusta, Georgia.She is also survived by three grandchildren: James D. Acker, Jr. and his wife, Sarah, Josh L. Acker and his wife, Amy, and Victoria Ashley Acker; and five great-grandchildren. A service to celebrate Mrs. Acker’s life was held Monday, March 5, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in The Chapel of Hicks Funeral Home, with Pastor Dennis Clark and Rev. Chris Maxwell officiating. Interment followed in Forest Hills Memorial Park with Josh Acker, Jamie Acker, Danny Bessinger, Joe Johnson, Bob Lee, Charles Cecchini, and Jim Boyd serving as pallbearers.Members of the Manning Co-Ed Sunday School Class served as honorary pallbearers. A time of visitation was held on Sunday afternoon from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Elberton, P.O.
