Alice Ila Madden Albertson

Alice Ila Madden Albertson, 91, of 2105 Washington Highway, passed away on Saturday morning, June 9, 2012, at Elbert Memorial Hospital. She resided at Nancy Hart Nursing Center during her last years. Funeral services to honor her life will be held on Monday, June 11, 2012, at 2 o'clock at Fortsonia Baptist Church, Washington Highway, Elberton, GA. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church two hours before the service beginning at 12 o'clock. Services will be lead by the Reverend Dwight Morgan and the Reverend Al Butler. Pallbearers will include Marc Albertson, Jason Albertson, Scott Albertson, Buzzy Davis, David Brown, Dixon Collins, Matt Austell, and Jeff Fitzmorris. Born in Elbert County on November 12, 1920, her parents were the late William Henry Madden and Vassie Ila Burden Madden. Her stepmother was the late Vesta McCurley Madden. She was married for 55 years to the late William Dolus Albertson, Sr. She was preceded in death by a son, Don L. Albertson as well as a sister, Mary G. Fowler; and three brothers, Howard Madden, Oscar Madden, and W.H. "Bee" Madden. Mrs. Albertson, affectionally known as "Tweety" and "Beebee", is survived by one son, W.D. Albertson, Jr, and his wife Theresa of Elberton; a daughter-in-law, Judy H. Albertson of Elberton; and one daughter, Teresa Albertson Davis and her husband Heyward of Greenville, SC. She was blessed with eight grandchildren who she cherished: Elisa A. and Dixon Collins, Pam A. and David Brown, Marc and Laura Albertson, Jason Albertson, Scott and JoAnne Albertson, Valerie and Matthew Austell, Heather and Jeff Fitzmorris, and Buzzy Davis. She also had 6 great-grandchildren who she adored: Keene Johnson, Jordan Collins, Lindsay Collins, Austin Albertson, Ryan Fitzmorris, and Charlotte Fitzmorris. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Bettie M. Albertson and Ellen Y. Madden. Mrs. Albertson retired from the Department of Family & Children Services in Elberton after 40 years of service. She was a former member and president of Pilot Club and also served as former president of the local chapter of AARP. Mrs. Albertson was a lady of great faith and was a very active member of Fortsonia Baptist Church before her declining health. She had served as director of WMU, Girls' Auxiliary leader and Sunday School Teacher. She also enjoyed singing in the choir. She especially enjoyed working with the church youth and chaperoned them on church sponsored trips. She often carried the youth group to the Pizza Hut for pizza and fellowship after Sunday night services. She was a mentor for these young people and offered a much needed listening ear to them. Alice loved working with the Baptist Student Union at Emmanuel College, Franklin Springs. She delighted in preparing and carrying meals for them to enjoy after the attended chapel services. She provided this kindness for them every Friday morning for many years. She was like a surrogate grandmother to them while they were in college and away from home. Alice will long be remembered for her kind, caring, and friendly nature. She was a great believer in reaching out to others and helping them. She had a smile for everyone and a gift of lifting the spirits of others as she frequently offered words of encouragement. She was often seen ringing the bell and collecting money for the Salvation Army at Christmas. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Vickie Baston, Activities Director ℅ Nancy Hart Nursing Center or to the charity of one's choice.
