Mrs. Alice Louise Peppers Johnson, 95, wife of 60 years to the late Dewey Frank Johnson, passed from this life into her heavenly home on Friday, May 27, 2016.
Mrs. Johnson was born on November 12, 1920, in Wilkes County to the late Clifford Wilce Peppers and Lilah Mae Bradford Peppers. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers: Dorsey, Grady, Jesse, and Walter; and one sister, Marigene Holcombe.
She is survived by her three children: daughter, Linda Burden and her husband Thomas "Gene" of Athens, GA; and sons: Franky W. Johnson and his wife Karen and David M. Johnson and his wife Betty, both of Elberton, GA; brother, Talmage Ray Peppers of West Chester, PA; thirteen grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Johnson, known to almost all who knew her as "Granny" or "Miss Alice", was, along with her late husband, a long-time member of Flatwoods Pentecostal Holiness Church, where she served as song leader and Sunday School Teacher of small children for over 40 years. Along with Dewey, she was also involved in the Gideons International, the Farm Bureau and the Rural Letter Carriers Association. She also served as a Pink Lady at Elbert Memorial Hospital. All who knew her loved her because she always showed love and kindness to all she met. She enjoyed nothing better than to share with others her time, her wonderful homemade food, and her resources.
The family is at their respective homes and will receive friends from 7-9PM Sunday night at Berry Funeral Home
Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 11AM on Monday, May 30, at Flatwoods Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Phillip Hart and Rev. Bobby Dunaway officiating. Mrs. Johnson will be placed in the church at 10AM. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in Forest Hills Memorial Park with her grandsons Shannon Johnson, Alan Jefferson, Audrey Cook, Millard Cook, Alan Holcomb, Jeff Dewitt, Lance Johnson, Landon Johnson, Ben Emery, Andy Dixon, Ric Dixon and Isaac Johnson honored as pallbearers.
