Mr. Allen Wilson Washington, 76, died Friday, May 17, 2019, at Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital.
Allen was born November 23, 1942, in Augusta, Georgia. He was married to Jane Anglin Washington and they resided in Lexington, Georgia. In retirement, they worked on genealogy and weather information.
His parents were Eulie Washington and May McKettrick Washington. Allen lived in Lexington attending Meson Academy and Oglethorpe County High School. The family moved to Thomson in 1956 and he graduated from Thomson High School in 1960.
Allen attended an electronics technical school in Atlanta until May 1961. He enlisted in the United States Air Force and became a Mace missile launch crew member serving 3 years in Germany. He was a Nuclear Weapons maintenance crew chief at bases in California. He taught technical, psychology, and administered training in Thailand and Louisiana. He later managed ground radar and weather equipment installations in Georgia, Illinois, and New Mexico. He was degreed in Electronics and Telecommunications disciplines.
He worked at the University of Georgia Physics Department. Returning to Albuquerque, New Mexico, he worked on microelectronics at Sandia National Laboratory and on NASA’s Delta II project.
Allen was preceded in death by his first wife, Jada; his son, Michael; and his parents. Allen had several cousins in Oglethorpe County and Augusta.
He is survived by his wife, Jane; stepson, Bobby Matthews; stepdaughter, Madyson Parsons; and grandchildren: Jordan Matthews, Trevor Matthews, Tyler Matthews, Olivia Parsons, and Trent Matthews.
Memorial services will be held on Sunday, May 26, at 3 o'clock at Welcome Avenue Congregational Holiness Church with Rev. William Anglin officiating.
