Sara Alma Moon Thomas, 94, widow of the late Jessie Prince "J.P." Thomas died Friday July 30, 2010 at Thomson Healthcare in Thomson, GA. Born in Elbert County, she was a daughter of the late Samuel David Moon and Lucy Mary Lou Eades Moon. She was a member of Newtown Baptist Church, and was retired from Elberton Mills where she worked for 38 years. Survivors include a daughter Mary Lou Black of Elberton, GA, daughter-in-law Charlotte Higginbotham of Elberton, GA, son and daughter-in-law Nelson and Patti Higginbotham of Canton, OH, sisters and brother-in-law Ailene Hewell of Elberton, GA and Frances and James Guest of Danielsville, GA, 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband Dan Solar, and her second husband Jessie Prince "J.P." Thomas, a son Marvin Higginbotham, and two brothers James Moon, and Edwin Moon. Funeral services will be held Tuesday August 3, at 11AM at The Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with Rev. William C. Mounts and Rev. Larry Snickles officiating. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery. The family will be at the home of Mary Lou Black 1213 Crestview Dr. Elberton and will receive friends from 10-11AM just prior to the service at Berry Funeral Home. Pallbearers will include Chuck Black, Justin Black, Eric Segars, Bryan Segars, Ricky Brown, and Josh Brown. The family has requested please in lieu of flowers memorials may be made in her honor to Alzheimers Assoc. GA Chapter 1925 Century Blvd. NE, Suite 10 Atlanta, GA 30345 or to a charity of ones choice. Berry Funeral Home is in charge of the funeral arrangements for Mrs. Sara Alma Moon Thomas.
