Andy Joe Eavenson, age 66, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 1, 2021, at his new home in Johnson City, TN, where he was lovingly surrounded by his family. He gained his wings after a long 9 ½ year battle with ALS, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
Andy was born on September 12, 1954, in Elberton, Ga. where he graduated from Elbert County Comprehensive High School. He was the son of the late Horace Lee Eavenson and Josephine Anderson Eavenson. Survivors are his wife of 45 years, Lizabeth “Libby” Webb Eavenson; his daughter, Megan and husband Andrew Richardson; his son, Drew Eavenson and his wife Taylor; and three grandchildren: Evan and Ethan Richardson and Dylan Eavenson.
He was a member of Concord Methodist Church and the Elberton Elks Lodge. He was a devoted father and enjoyed coaching Camp Harmony basketball and Little League baseball from t-ball to senior league. He was a devoted employee and loved his job at Claude Ray Ford Sales as Service Manager and later Parts Manager for 35 years. He was an avid deer hunter, made hand crafted knives and was a big Nascar fan. In his later years with ALS, he enjoyed watching the grandchildren, tv, and visits with his friends and his health care family.
His service will be at the First United Methodist Church of Elberton at 11 o’clock on Saturday, April 10, with the Rev. Bryan Smith officiating. Burial will be private at Elmhurst Cemetery.
