Annie Lou Fortson Cornell

Mrs. Annie Lou Cornell of Elberton passed away November 7, 2009 at Athens Regional Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late John C. and Annie Ruth Fortson of Elberton.She was a long-time member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Elberton, and she worked in the granite industry for many years.She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene M. Cornell, her sister, Johnnie Brodeur, and her brother, Marion Fortson. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Dale Wakefield, of Athens; her son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Nell Cornell, of Watkinsville; grandchildren, Jake and Allison Wakefield, of Macon, Jill and Nathan Clark of San Antonio, TX, Clint Cornell, of Athens, Carson Cornell, of Carrollton, and Zach Cornell, of Commerce; great-grandchildren, Lily Wakefield, Chloe Clark, Finn Wakefield, Spencer Clark, and Lily Cornell; sisters, Carolyn Barger, of Elberton, Dottie Wakefield, of Dawsonville; brothers, Wayne Fortson, of Savannah, Don Fortson, of Comer, and Jack Fortson, of Grovetown. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 9, 2009 at 2:00 in Hicks Funeral Home Chapel withDr. Tim Smith officiating.Interment will follow at the family plot in Rehoboth Baptist Church Cemetery.The family will receive friends Sunday evening, 6-8 PM at the funeral home.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Hicks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
