Barbara Ann Guest

The world became a little less on April 13, 2016 when Barbara Ann Guest passed away peacefully in her sleep surrounded by pets and grandchildren--her favorite things. Barbara was the epitome of a giver. She gave to everyone. She loved deeply and fiercely, giving all that she had to those she loved. She loved two daughters through every aspect of their lives.

Barbara Ann Guest was born in Athens, GA on September 11, 1952. She lived in Comer, GA until she decided to try her hand at the big city of Atlanta. She worked for Post Properties for 25 years before coming to her senses and moving back to the Athens area. While living in Atlanta she got married and had two wonderful girls.

She retired from the Athens-Clarke County Economic Development in 2010. She was lucky enough to spend her days with her grandchildren. Brendon (9), Brody (2), Brayleigh (1), all of Comer, GA, who were her companions. Kennedy (7) and Eleanor (3) of Raleigh, NC were doted on from afar and the weeks they got to spend with Nana were some of their favorite. They will miss teaching their Nana about super heroes, the finer points of the whip and nay-nay, and how to be an escape artist without a grown up knowing.

In addition to her grandchildren, she is survived by her mother, Betty Guest of Carlton, GA; her two daughters Kati, and husband Jason Gardner, of Raleigh, NC and Kristi Guest of Carlton; sisters and brothers, Beverly and Tony Lastinger, Brenda Davis, and John and June Guest, all of Carlton; and countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She is preceded in death by her father, John Guest, Sr.

Visitation will be from 6 pm to 8 pm on Friday, April 15, 2016 at Berry Funeral Home. A service celebrating Barbara’s live will be at 2 pm on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Newtown Baptist Church with interment following in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the trust that is being established for her grandchildren. Please send all donations to Pinnacle Bank in Elberton, GA, made in care of the Barbara Guest Grandchildren trust.
