Barbara Sue Brock Mitchell

Mrs. Barbara Sue Brock Mitchell, 84, of Deer Lane, Elberton, GA, wife of 61 years to John Wiley Mitchell, passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, peacefully at her residence. 

Barbara was born on January 12, 1940, in Whitmire, SC, the 10th of 14 children born to George Dewey and Lucille Bridges Brock. She married John Wiley Mitchell on May 9, 1962, in Whitmire. She worked as a teller at Pinnacle Bank in Elberton and later worked alongside her family at their company, Spartan Tool Company. Barbara was a member of Rock Branch Baptist Church. 

Barbara is survived by her husband, John Mitchell; four sons and their spouses: Johnny and Lisa Mitchell of Elberton, Billy and Wanda Mitchell of Elberton, Brock and Amber Mitchell of Commerce, TX, and Ray and Hannah Mitchell of Comer; brother, Melvin Brock of Easley, SC; sisters: Willie Miller, Grace Bradley, Linda Brock, and Jean Alewine, all of Whitmire, and Anne Smith of Easley, SC; thirteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Along with her parents, Barbara is preceded in death by her siblings: Larry, Don, George, David, Jack, Jane, and Myrtle. 

In accordance to Barbara's wishes, a private memorial service will be held on Friday, February 16, in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery. 

A register book will be available at Berry Funeral Home for those wishing to extend their condolences.
