Barbara Irene Hill Nicas died peacefully on February 18, 2011.She was born February 4, 1933, daughter of Irene Strickland Hill and Charles E. Hill, Jr. Barbara graduated from Valdosta High School and the University of Georgia where she majored in Voice and received a BFA.She was also a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority.Barbara lived and raised her family in Columbus, Ga.In 1985 she relocated to the Warm Springs area and worked at the Roosevelt Warm Springs Institute for Rehabilitation until her retirement in 1996.In 1997 she moved to Elberton, Ga.She lived for her love of music, her garden and especially her family.She had a passion for her church, St. Albans Episcopal and the Ladies Auxiliary of Elbert Memorial Hospital where she was a past President. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be dearly missed.Barbara is survived by her husband Allen G. Nicas, son; George, Athens, Ga., daughter; Amanda Widener, Greenville, SC, grandchildren: Anna (Jason) Bunch, Daniel Widener, Elizabeth (Justin) Foster, and Sarah Widener;great-granddaughters Kaitlyn Bunch and Haylee Foster, all of Greenville, SC; brother,Charles E. Hill, III (Nell), Orange Beach, AL., nephews and niece. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at 11 am. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Alban’s Episcopal Church or the Ladies Auxiliary at Elbert Memorial Hospital.
