Benjamin Cassels Mcwhorter, Jr.

Mr. Benjamin Cassels McWhorter, Jr., 86, of Athens Highway, Elberton, husband of the late Carolyn Elizabeth Suddeth McWhorter, passed away on Monday, September 17, 2019, at Elbert Memorial Hospital.

Mr. McWhorter was born in Woodville, GA on March 3, 1933, son of the late Benjamin Cassels McWhorter, Sr. and Martha Orr McWhorter. He was a member of Doves Creek Baptist Church, a stone cutter having retired from the granite industry, and a U.S. Air Force veteran.

Survivors include his children: Allen McWhorter of Elberton, Fred McWhorter of Elberton, Ann and Stanley Hewston of Aiken, SC, and Martha Worsham of Loganville; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by his siblings: Fred McWhorter and Nelle Ashby.

Funeral services celebrating his life will be held on Thursday, September 19, at 3 o’clock at Doves Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Douglas Huff officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service.
