Benjamin Smith "Ben" Oglesby

Mr. Benjamin Smith “Ben” Oglesby, of S. Thomas Street, Elberton, entered into rest on Friday, June 30, 2023, at Piedmont Athens Hospital, at the age of 56. He passed away peacefully with his family at his bedside after a long battle with cancer. 

Ben was born in Elberton on October 30, 1966, son of the late William Lanier “Boots” Oglesby and Beverly ‘Carole’ Albertson Oglesby. A lifelong resident of Elberton, he attended Elbert County High School. A man of many talents, Ben held several jobs throughout his life. He worked as a chef and as an HVAC technician, as well as in the granite industry, construction industry, and as an apprentice electrician. Ben had a special love for racing, gardening, and cooking. A jack of all trades, he could repair almost anything and especially enjoyed furniture restoration and taking care of his truck. 

Survivors include his children: BJ (Britney) Oglesby of Elberton and Peyton (Emma) Oglesby of Comer; grandchildren: Ason Grimes, Avery Oglesby, and Karli Oglesby; sisters: Paula (Kyle) Armstrong of Elberton and Amanda (Frank) Casey of Macon; nieces and nephews: Christa (Chelsea) Cobo, Patrick Armstrong, Zachary Armstrong, Lauren Casey, and Megan Casey; and a host of other relatives and many friends. 

The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 16, from 1:00-1:45p.m. at Berry Funeral Home. Memorial services will follow at 2:00p.m. in the Berry Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tim Adams officiating. Ben's cremated remains will be interred with his parents in Elmhurst Cemetery.

Ben was compassionate, genuine, and kind with a fun spirited and loving soul. He will be missed and remembered by many.
