Beryl “Bebe” Coggins Kennedy, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2025, at her home in Homerville, Georgia, after an extended illness. Bebe was born on October 14, 1948, in Elberton, Georgia, to Thomas and Beryl Coggins.
Bebe graduated high school from Fairfax Hall in Virginia before attending the University of Georgia, where she met her husband Allen Virgil Kennedy II, of Homerville. On August 15, 1970, she and Allen married. They have three children: Allen, Lori, and Tom.
Bebe devoted many years of her life serving as an elementary school teacher, a role she loved. Her students adored her. She had a heart for helping her students both in and out of the classroom. To her fellow teachers, Bebe was more than just a colleague – she was a dear friend whose sweet, caring spirit inspired those around her. Her presence left a lasting impact on those who were blessed to have her as a teacher or work with her as a friend.
Throughout her life, Bebe enjoyed many hobbies. She loved painting, planting flowers, gardening, cooking, entertaining, and spending time outdoors. For many years, Bebe owned Pine Cone Alley, a local gift shop. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Homerville, where she served as a children’s Sunday School teacher and GAs leader.
But most especially, Bebe enjoyed spending time with her family and loved being a grandmother. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew her, through the lessons she taught, the flowers she planted, and the lives she touched.
Bebe is survived by her husband, Allen, her children: Allen V Kennedy III (Kendra), Lori James (Brent), and Tom Kennedy (Emily); and her precious grandchildren: Lily Blitch (Chase), Katie Futch (Ashley), Thomas Kennedy, Taylor Kennedy and Ella Katherine Kennedy. She is also survived by her brother Rol Coggins (Carmen) of Texas and a special family member, Stephen Hodges.
The family would like to thank Bebe’s dedicated caregivers for the past many months: Dianne Hodges, Tammy Barrentine, Alisha Harnage, and Ariel Smith.
A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church of Homerville on Monday, April 14 at 11 am, with the family receiving friends in the sanctuary beginning at 10 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Clinch Memorial Hospital Foundation or the church or charity of your choice.
