Bettie C. Johnson

Mrs. Bettie C. Johnson, 75, of Elberton, Georgia passed away Thursday, October 1, 2015 at Elbert Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Johnson was born in North Carolina, daughter ofthe late Leroy and Elizabeth Tweed Capps. She and her husband, John Newt Johnson, had celebrated over 57 years of marriage together. Mrs. Johnson was a homemaker, however she had worked as a seamstress for Elberton Manufacturing at one time, and kept books for her husband’s business.One of her favorite pastimes was crocheting.She was a member of Fortsonia Baptist Church. In addition to her husband, John Johnson, Mrs. Johnson is survived by a daughter, Wanda Simmons and her husband, Buck, of Monroe; a son, David Johnson of Elberton; four grandchildren: Brandy McNeil, John Simmons, Michael Simmons, and Alex Johnson;and five great-grandchildren: Jarrod McNeil, Jacob McNeil, Sharon Simmons, Levi Simmons, and Dylan Simmons.She also leaves behind two sisters: Rosa Lee of Charleston, SC, and Peggy Turner of Pamplico, SC; and a favorite niece, Ann Johnson of Charleston. A memorial service to celebrate Mrs. Johnson’s life was held on Friday, October 2, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Fortsonia Baptist Church, with Rev. Al Butler officiating.Visitation was at 1:00 p.m. at the church just prior to the service.
