Mrs. Betty Jane Giannoni, 87, of Elberton, GA, passed away peacefully in her home on Tuesday, December 6, 2011. Born March 30, 1924, in Elberton, she was the daughter of the late Robert R. McLanahan, Sr. and Hassie McMullan also of Elberton. Following her graduation from Central High School, she completed a year of commercial classwork in bookkeeping under Emmy Thompson and advanced bookkeeping program at Georgia State College for women in Milledgeville, Ga. She was employed with Scott Forsom Publishing Co. in Atlanta and later was executive secretary of Rich’s Home furnishing department in Atlanta. She and Joe Giannoni, Jr. were married on November 9, 1947.Mrs. Giannoni was a member of the First Methodist Church of Elberton. She is survived by her sons David Allen Giannoni of Elberton and Gregory Joseph Giannoni of Cordele, Ga., sister, Rose Ann Thompson of Elberton and brother David McLanahan of Gainesville, Florida. Preceding her in death were her husband of 60 years, Joe Giannoni, Jr., brothers Bob McLanahan, Jr. and Neal T. McLanahan of Elberton, and sisters Louise Webb of Elberton and Madge Oglesby of Athens, Ga. Graveside memorial services for Mrs. Giannoni will be held at Elmhurst Cemetery on Friday, December 9, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Methodist Church of Elberton and/or Ruckersville United Methodist Church, 2189 Ruckersville Road, Elberton, Ga.
