Betty Catherine Grimes

Mrs. Betty Catherine Walling Grimes, 81, of Elberton, Georgia passed away Monday, July 6, 2015 at Athens Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Grimes was born in Elberton, daughter of the late John Eddie and May Evelyn Shirreffs Walling.She was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church of Elberton, and recently was attending Firehouse Church.Mrs. Grimes enjoyed drawing and painting, and won ribbons at the Elbert County Fair for her accomplishments as an artist. Mrs. Grimes is survived by her daughter, Kathy Haynes of Hartwell;three sons: Joe Grimes (Debbie), Roger Grimes, and Felix Grimes (Jena), all of Elberton.She also leaves behind seven grandchildren: Jason and T.J. Haynes, Tiffany Grimes, Andrea Smith, Justin Grimes, Stanley Hammond, and Taylor Hammond;and 13 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Grimes was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Summer Grimes and Shonda Hammond. A time of visitation for family and friends was held on Wednesday evening, July 8, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Hicks Funeral Home.
