Betty Jo Johnson Miller

Mrs. Betty Jo Johnson Miller, 88, of Coldwater Road, Elberton, wife of the late Thomas Tompkins Miller, passed away on Friday, December 13, 2024, at her granddaughter’s home in Elberton.

Born in Elberton on May 28, 1936, Betty was the second of seven children born to Hubert Herman “Jack” Johnson, Sr. and Ida Elizabeth Bryant Johnson Shaw. Her love of children led her to become a Head Start teacher, having worked in both Athens and Bowman. She and her husband Tom were foster parents, and blessed over fifty foster children along the way. Betty was a member of Concord United Methodist Church and attended Rock Branch Baptist Church.

Affectionately known as “MawMaw” to her family, she loved being outdoors, whether working in her yard or trout fishing. Betty enjoyed collecting frogs, reading, and putting together puzzles. Her greatest joy in life was her family, and she loved each and every one of them unconditionally.

Surviving are her sons: Curtis Craft of Elberton and Steve Miller; grandchildren: Lynette (Nathan) Meece, Randy (Mika) Craft, and Michelle (Josh Mercer) Craft; great-grandchildren: Jeremy, Kayla, Blane, Treson, and Journee; great-great-grandchildren: Braiden, Zaine, Emersyn, Waylon, and Forrest; step-grandchildren: Katherine, Teresa, and Madison; siblings: Harriet Zorc of Savanna, Deanie Milligan of Johns Creek, Herman (Mary) Johnson of Chamblee, and Joe (Margaret) Johnson of Elberton; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded by her son, Eddie Craft; great-grandson, Bray; and siblings: Mary Wood and Charles Johnson

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 18, from 1:00-1:45p.m. at Berry Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 2:00p.m. in the funeral home chapel, officiated by the Rev. Kevin Vaughn. Burial will be in the Concord United Methodist Church Cemetery.
