Mrs. Betty Massey Prather of Elberton, Georgia entered into rest on December 26, 2018 after a lengthy period of declining health. Born September 16, 1927 in Canon, Georgia, she was the second child of the late Ruth Duncan Massey and Horace E. Massey. Her greatest joy in life was her family and dear friends. She took pride in being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and friend. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 32 years, William Harold Prather; her youngest daughter, Toni Hopkins Thompson; her sisters, Marcene Massey Nicholson and Louise Massey Hendrix; and her brother, James Massey. Mrs. Prather is survived by her daughter Linda, and son-in-law Paul Dietrichs of Marietta, Georgia; her dear brother Eldon Massey; her dear sister Delores, and brother-in-law Donald Vickery; and her seven grandchildren: Matthew Whiten and husband Matt Peterson, Michele Barton and husband Matt, Michael Thompson and wife Chessann, Matthew Thompson and wife Aimee, Andy Thompson and wife Lisa, Joshua Thompson, and Melissa Ferretti. She is further survived by eight loving great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service was held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 30, 2018 at First United Methodist Church, Elberton. The familyreceived friends at the church from 1:00 – 2:15 p.m. just prior to the service.A private interment was held following the service.
