Mrs. Betty Thomason Ruff, 85, of Elberton, Georgia, entered into rest peacefully Monday, August 22, 2011 at St. Mary’s Hospice House with her family at her side. Mrs. Ruff was born September 28, 1925 in her home on South Oliver Street. She was the daughter of the late John Henry Thomason, Sr. and Lizzie Belle Wansley.Mrs. Ruff was preceded in death by brothers; John Henry Thomason, Jr., Bobby L. Thomason, and her husband of 54 years; Charles W. Ruff who passed away in 2001. Mrs. Ruff was very giving in her devotion to her church and community.She was a long-time member of Falling Creek Baptist Church, and was a member of the True Blue Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the 25’rs Club.She was a homemaker and also co-owner of Charles Ruff Hardware for 31 years. Mrs. Ruff is survived by three daughters: Amanda (Jay) Crawford, Bogart, Ga., Claudia McDowell (the late Kenneth McDowell), Elberton, Ga., Mary (Randy) Yeargin, Winterville, Ga.; five grandchildren: Allison (Rusty) Melancon, Staci (Kevin) Spivey, Jon (Erica) Crawford, Kayla Yeargin, Kyle Yeargin and three great-grandchildren.Survivors also include sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws: Mrs. Louise Thomason, Mr. & Mrs. Albert M. Ruff, Sr., Mrs. Jean Ruff, Mr.Charles Barger, Mrs. Peggy Greenway, Mr. & Mrs. James W. Ruff and Mr. & Mrs. W. D. Albertson, Jr. A service to celebrate Mrs. Ruff’s life will be Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at Falling Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Dwight Morgan and Rev. Wayne Barger officiating.Also speaking during the service will be Kayla Yeargin and Staci Spivey.Visitation for family and friends will be Tuesday August 23, 2011 from 6:00-8:00 p.m.Interment will be at Elmhurst Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jack Thomason, Les Hanson, Bob Thomason, Jon Crawford, Kyle Yeargin and Keene Johnson. Flowers will be greatly appreciated or memorials may be made to Falling Creek Baptist Church. The family will be at the home of Mrs. Claudia McDowell, 1931 Lexington Highway, Elberton, Ga.
