Mr. William “Bill” Forrest Grant Jr., 58, husband of Melissa Seymour Grant, passed away peacefully at his home in Elberton Saturday, November 15, 2014. Born in Macon on August 18, 1956, Bill grew up in Elberton and was a 1974 graduate of Elbert County High School. He was a Senior Vice President at Pinnacle Bank in Elberton and had worked in banking for 36 years at banks in Lavonia, Jackson, and Washington. Bill was a 1978 graduate of Georgia Tech, a 1996 graduate of Louisiana State University Graduate Banking School, and a 1999 graduate of the U.S. Army War College National Security Seminar in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. He had served in recent years on the Brewton Parker College (Mt. Vernon) Board of Trustees. Bill was also a long-time member of the Kiwanis Club and was a club member in Elberton, Lavonia, Jackson, and Washington.Bill also served in many capacities as a volunteer in youth sports and recreation programs. A baseball and softball umpire and high school football referee, he received a commendation for his 10 years of service for volunteering and coaching with the Butts County Recreation Department. Bill served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher – and in many other volunteer roles and committees in the churches he attended – at First Baptist Church of Lavonia, First Baptist Church of Jackson, First Baptist Church of Locust Grove, First Baptist Church of Washington, and First Baptist Church of Elberton.Over the years he also served as a volunteer and worked with the American Cancer Society and the Boy Scouts. Bill was preceded in death by his father, William Forrest Grant Sr., and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Betty Hewell Seymour and Thomas Alvaredo Seymour. Survivors include his wife of the home; daughters: Kathryn Melissa Grant of Elberton,and Elizabeth Forrest Grant (and Jacob) Barry of Bowman; his mother:Willene Jones Grant of Elberton; his sister: Anna Grant (and Gary) Jones of Elberton; a brother-in-law Danny Lee (and Karen) Seymour of Hull; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services were held Monday at 11 a.m. at Elberton First Baptist Church with be the Reverend Mark Owens and the Reverend Matthew Davis officiating. The family received friends Sunday evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Hicks Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Jim Roberts, Daniel Dooley, Sid Barger, Ronnie Cordell, Martin Williams, David Tatum, Danny Seymour, and Eddie Lovvorn. Honorary pallbearers were nephews:Joshua Seymour, Jared Seymour, Benjamin Seymour, John Andrew Seymour, and Christopher Jones;and officers, directors, and staff of Pinnacle Bank.
