Billy Douglas Ray, 73, of Woodyard Road, Elberton, husband of 53 years to Scheryl Oglesby Ray, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at Elbert Memorial Hospital. Mr. Ray was born in Franklin County, September 27, 1939, to the late Steve S. and Ila Brooks Ray. He was a retired patrolman from Georgia Forestry Commission and a member of Victory Baptist Church. Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Scheryl Oglesby Ray of the home; three sons, Keith Ray and his wife Lisa, Darren Ray and his wife Karen, and Randy Ray, all of Elberton; brother, Donald Ray and his wife Jan of Vidalia; sister, Gwen Maxwell and her husband Joe of Bowman; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services celebrating his life will be held Saturday, June 15, at 3:00p.m. in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Sean Baughman and Rev. Jim Olds officiating. Entombment will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum with Mike Maxwell, Chuck Roberts, Andy Ray, Jake Odum, Rodney Oglesby, and Kevin Ray honored as pallbearers. The family is at the residence on Woodyard Road and will receive friends at Berry Funeral Home from 6:00-9:00p.m. Friday evening.
