Billy Richard Gaines

Mr. Billy Richard Gaines, 64, of Rock Branch Road, Elberton, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 29, 2023, at AnMed Health Medical surrounded by his family following a sudden illness. 

Bill was born in Elbert County on February 5, 1959, and spent all of his life in the Rock Branch Community. He was a graduate of Elbert County High School and worked for nearly 46 years at Turner Concrete and Quality Block. He proudly served as a volunteer fireman with the Rock Branch Fire Department. 

A simple man, Bill was a country boy at heart and an avid UGA football fan. He loved being outdoors, farming and gardening. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting. 

The youngest of four children, he is preceded in death by his parents, Joe Fred Gaines and Fannie Ray Bowen Gaines; brothers: Vernon Gaines and Ray Gaines; and sister and brother-in-law, Jackie and Kenneth Craft. 

He is survived by his sisters-in-law: Evelyn Lawrence Gaines and Sylvia Ivester Gaines, both of Elberton; nephews and nieces: Michael Gaines, Jason Gaines, Adam Brian Gaines, Paul Craft, Dana Floyd, and Jill Craft. 

The family is at their respective homes and will receive friends on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, from 6:00-8:00p.m. at Berry Funeral Home. 

Funeral services celebrating Bill’s life will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at 2:00p.m. in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Gaines officiating. Interment will follow in the Rock Branch Baptist Church cemetery.
