Billy Irvin Barton

Mr. Billy Irvin Barton, 84, of Thomas Street, Elberton, husband of 25 years to the late Mildred Dean Mercer Barton, passed away on Friday, July 12, 2019, at Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital.

Mr. Barton was born in Hart County on November 25, 1934, son of the late Joe Barton and Elsie Fleming Barton. He was a graduate of Bowman High School and a U.S. Army Veteran. Billy retired from the maintenance department at Westinghouse, and was a member of Rehoboth Baptist Church and Philomathea Masonic Lodge #25.

He is survived by his step children: Rhoda and Paul Albertson of Elberton, Randy Mercer and Rudy Garza of Dunwoody, and Richard and Nancy Mercer of Newberry, SC; grandchildren: Juli and Ryan Miller, Clint and Adrien Dickerson, and Audrey Mercer; and great-grandchildren: Kirsten, Allison, Stella, and Alivia.

Funeral services celebrating his life will be held on Sunday, July 14, at 2 o’clock in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Douglas Huff officiating. Private interment will follow in Elmhurst Cemetery.

The family is at the residence of Paul and Rhoda Albertson, 818 Sherwood Drive, Elberton, and will receive friends at Berry Funeral Home for one hour prior to the service.
