Billy Ray Dye

Mr. Billy Ray “Bug Fuzz” Dye, 72, of Calhoun Falls Highway, Elberton, husband of 40 years to Kathy Young Dye, passed away on Saturday, December 25, 2021, at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta.

Billy was born in Elberton on November 4, 1949, son of the late Floyd Seaborn “Punk” Dye, Jr. and Leila Celestia “Mickey” Sheridan Dye. He was of the Baptist faith and a 1968 graduate of Elbert County High School.

Billy was well known and respected in the horse world. He was a champion barrel racer and his work as a talented horse trainer will live on. Billy enjoyed any kind of animals, but he always looked forward to watching birds that he fed. He would give anyone in need the shirt off of his back, and absolutely loved his family. Billy touched thousands of lives and will be well remembered forever.

Survivors, in addition to his wife Kathy, include his sons: Cory (Jenny) Dye of Tignall and Donnie Fleming of Elberton; his older brother, Floyd (Annette) Dye of Dewy Rose; grandchildren: Haley (Jake) Pruitt, Jessica (Josh Pilgrim) Dye, Tyler Fleming, and Jake (Aubrey) Fleming; great-grandchildren: Payton, Madison, and Wade; niece, Jill (Jamie) Callaway; nephew, Barry (Caroline) Dye; great-nieces: Emily Callaway, Nora Dye, and Charlotte Dye; great-nephew, Easton Callaway; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Craig Dye; and faithful dog, Puddin,

A Celebration of Billy’s life will be held on Sunday, January 2, 2022, at 2 o’clock in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Jamie Callaway officiating. Billy requested for those attending to please dress casual, and by casual he meant blue jeans!

The family may be contacted the residence, 2890 Calhoun Falls Highway, and will greet friends immediately following the service at the funeral home on Sunday.
