Bobby Ray Payton

Mr. Bobby Ray Payton, 70, of Lexington Highway, Elberton, husband of Laverne Worley Payton, passed away on Monday, December 27, 2021, at Landmark Hospital in Athens.

Born in Elberton on October 4, 1951, Bobby was a son of the late J.B. Payton and Edna Sanders Payton. He was a graduate of Elbert County High School and a machine operator having retired from Glen Raven. He was an avid coin collector who enjoyed trips to the mountains, fishing, and telling jokes.

Survivors, in addition to his wife Laverne, include his daughters: Jessica (Jimmy) Simons of Jefferson, Rhonda (Shane) Cox of Greenwood, SC, Barbara (Eric Wright) Suttles of Augusta, and Charmin (Kyle) Sexton of Elberton; siblings: James (Lynn) Payton and Dianne Payton, all of Elberton; grandchildren: Chloe, Sydnee, Alli, Makaila, Payton, McKenzi, Presleigh, and Jake; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Funeral services celebrating Bobby’s life will be held on Thursday, December 30, at 2 o’clock in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Douglas Huff officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park.

The family is at their respective homes and will receive friends at Berry Funeral Home from 1:00-1:45p.m. on Thursday, just prior to the service.
