Bonny Oglesby Thomas

Mrs. Bonny Marie Oglesby Thomas, 54, of Athens, passed away on Monday, October 14, 2019, at Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital.

Bonny was born in Atlanta on January 17, 1965, daughter of the late James Robert Oglesby and the late Myrna Frances Walden Oglesby Adamson, and the step-daughter of the late Franklin Eugene Adamson. She was a 1983 graduate of Morrow Senior High and received an associates degree from Athens Technical College. Bonny was a stay at home mom who was devoted to the care of her children. After they were grown, she worked in the baby hearing screening program at the Athens Clarke County Health Department and as an administrative assistant in different offices. Bonny had a servant’s heart and loved helping disabled persons. In addition, she loved writing and had dreams of starting her own ministry. Bonny was a member of Calvary Bible Church and a former member of St. Gregory the Great Episcopal Church.

Survivors include her children: Olivia Nicole Holland Roberts and her husband Jack of Acworth and Richard Ely “Buddy” Thomas, Jr. of Athens; grandson, Jackson Arthur Roberts of Acworth and step-granddaughter, Ariel Lynn Roberts; sister, Susan Elaine Oglesby of Tampa, FL; special cousin, Lynda Lyle of McDonough; special friend, Kenneth Taylor of Athens; and numerous other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 19 years, Richard Ely Thomas, Sr.

Memorial services celebrating her life will be held on Monday, October 21, at 6 o’clock at Calvary Bible Church with Pastor Thomas Settles officiating.

A committal service will be held on Sunday, October 27, at 4 o'clock in the St. Gregory the Great Episcopal Church Cemetery.
