Mr. Brian James Looney, age 62, of Bowman, Georgia quickly and peacefully entered into rest on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, following a sudden cardiac event.
Brian was born in San Antonio, Texas on April 15, 1961, and moved around following his military dad’s career. The family finally settled in Rock Hill, South Carolina where Brian graduated from Rock Hill High School in 1978. He attended the US Air Force Academy and would later graduate from Winthrop College, obtaining a Bachelors Degree in Accounting and Business.
Brian was currently working as the Officer Manager at Flatwoods Granite Company and is also remembered for having owned and operated the former Side Street Steaks & Italian on Elberton's N. McIntosh Street. His personality was larger than life, and he possessed the ability to make everyone feel like they’re a someone. Brian’s quick wit, smile, and jokes lit up every room in which he walked. He was particularly proud of his family, and never missed an opportunity to share about them.
Brian is preceded in death by his father, Glenn Roland Looney; and father-in-law, Virgil Brown. He is survived by his mother, Anita Pearl Cox Looney of Rock Hill, SC: wife of 32 years, Tammy Jo Brown of Bowman, GA; children: Jaime Coggins of Greensboro, NC, Wendy and Josh Collier of Elberton, GA, Paige and Brice Dobson of Stone Mountain, GA, and Zachary Brown of Chattanooga, TN; sister, Sharon Connor of Chester, SC; and mother-in-law, Charlene Brown of Elberton, GA. “Papaw” also leaves behind three grandchildren, all of whom he absolutely adored: Riley Grace, Bentley, and Emmie Jane.
Brian was adamant that he did not want a formal service, and the family is honoring his request.
If desired, contributions in his memory may be sent to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, 1575 NE Expressway, Atlanta, GA 30329 or online at choa.org/tribute.
