Mr. Bryan Curtis Segars, 41, of Hobbs Noggle Road, Dewy Rose, husband of 10 years to Kathie Higginbotham Segars, finished his course in faith on Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at his residence. Mr. Segars was born in Elbert County on January 31, 1973, to J. Denney and Amy Madden Segars. He was a 1991 graduate of Elbert County Comprehensive High School and attended the University of Georgia where he played in the Redcoat Band. Bryan was a dedicated Paramedic and Level II Training Offcier at Elbert County Emergency Medical Services for 22 years. Mr. Segars was an Emergency Medical Technician Instructor at Athens Technical College's Elbert County Campus. He truly made a difference in each of his student's life as he taught them life-saving strategies and encouraged them to be nothing shy of the best. Bryan was an active member of First Baptist Church of Elberton where he taught the College and Careers Sunday School Class and played in the Praise Band. In addition to his wife of the home and his parents of Dewy Rose, he is survived by four children: Keelei, Tyler, and Braydon Segars, all of Elberton and Anna Jaudon of Dewy Rose; sister, Denise Williamson, her husband Kevin, and their son Eli, all of Dewy Rose; aunts and uncles: Lonnie and Frances Deal, Bill and Jean Madden, Wayne and Nancy Madden, George Frank and Jane Madden, Russell and Sheila Madden, and Byron and Linda Madden; mother-in-law, Charlotte Harper Higginbotham; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Angela and Buck Segars, Vickie Freeman, Marvine and Ricky Brown, and Kristal and Dan Schroeder; and a host of other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his grandparents: Claude and Jewell Mills Madden and Curtis and Sarah Denney Segars; and aunt and uncle, Ralph "Tiny" and Ouida Saxon. Funeral services celebrating his life will be held on Sunday, July 6, at 6:00p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Elberton with the Revs. Raymond Scott, Gary Purvis, and Ken Whitfield officiating. Mr. Segars will be placed in the church at 4:30p.m. Interment will follow in the Deep Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Brian Holiday, Buck Segars, Eric Segars, Michael Hewell, Justin Hobbs, Brian Hunt, and Eddie Campbell honored as pallbearers. Georgia Emergency Medical Services and Affiliates will serve as honorary pallbearers and are asked to assemble at the church no later than 5:30p.m. Visitation will be held at Berry Funeral Home from 5:00-7:00p.m. on Saturday evening. At other times the family may be contacted at the residence on Hobbs Noggle Road or at the residence of his parents on Nickville Road.
