Caleb Clark Massey

Mr. Caleb Clark Massey, born on September 6, 1986, in Elberton, GA, passed away on April 30, 2024, at the age of 37. He lived a life full of courage, kindness, and selflessness that will be cherished and remembered by all who were fortunate enough to really know him.

From a young age, Caleb displayed a sense of adventure and creativity. His love for playing Army as a child foretold his future path towards service in the United States Army. He missed walking with his 2004 graduating class at Elbert County Comphrehensive High School because he had chosen to enroll in basic training at Fort Benning, and was stationed at Fort Gillem. Caleb would go on to live out his dream of active duty, serving during the Iraq War. Though decorated with several medals for his bravery during service, including a Purple Heart - a recognition he humbly declined out of respect for fallen comrades - Caleb's true measure of success lay in the completion of each mission and the camaraderie forged among fellow soldiers. To quote Caleb, "I did not care as long as the mission was complete. Awards meant little. The feeling of doing a good job was the only medal I cared about. They hung a lot of things on my uniform but the two that meant the most to me were the Combat Infantry Badge and the Parachutist badge, commonly known as "Jump Wings."

Outside of his military service, Caleb found solace in nature, particularly in the simple pleasure of sitting around a crackling fire. His artistic side found expression through painting, reflecting his deep appreciation for beauty in all its forms. A kind person, he never missed an opportunity to help his friends.

Despite facing challenges and hardships along the way as a result of his military career, Caleb never lost his infectious smile or willingness to lend a helping hand to those around him. Our hearts are broken over Caleb’s death, but we are so thankful to know that he had a relationship with Jesus Christ and that we will be once again be with him for eternity in Heaven.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents: Andy and Martha Clark Fowler, and Linsey Massey.
