Carol Kantala Burns' life's journey ended on November 26th at the age of 62 after 6 years of battling breast cancer. She was the daughter of Sara Tatum Kantala, and the late Matthew Walter Kantala, Jr, of Elberton, Georgia, wife of James Dean Burns and mother of Sara Emily Burns of Snellville, Georgia. Survivors also include her brother, Matthew Walter Kantala, III, of Elberton and sister, Carin Kantala McDaniel, of Hiawassee, Ga. She lived in the Atlanta area for over 40 years and was employed by the investment firms of Invesco, Inc. and Montag & Caldwell, heading their equity trading departments. Happily retired, Carol enjoyed her life on their farm, in particular gardening and caring for their animals. A memorial service was held on December 15th, 3:00 PM at Oak Grove United Methodist Church in Decatur, GA. The Burns family has established an endowment for the swimming program at The College of William & Mary where memorials can be made in lieu of flowers.
