Mrs. Carrie Juanita Ray Thornton of Elberton entered into rest on Saturday morning, July 2, 2016, at Pruitt Health at Spring Valley at the age of 84.
Mrs. Thornton was born in Elbert County on February 11, 1932, to Toomie Lee Ray and DelRey Lunsford Ray. She was a homemaker and sat with the elderly. Mrs. Thornton had been a member of Liberty Congregational Church since she was a child.
She was the loving and devoted mother of Pam and Tom Cade Smith of Elberton, and wife of the late Omer Lewis Thornton.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by four infant sisters.
Funeral services celebrating her life will be held on Sunday afternoon, July 3, at 3 o'clock in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy Lewis officiating. Interment will follow in Elmhurst Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home immediately following the service. The family is at the home of Pam and Tom Cade Smith, Lincolnton Highway, Elberton.
The family respectfully request flowers be omitted. Contributions may be made in her memory to Spring Valley Activities Fund, 651 Rhodes Drive, Elberton, GA 30635. Please make checks payable to Wanda Allen and put in the memo line in memory of Carrie Juanita Thornton.
