Charles Harley Franklin, 84, of 507 Shelton Ave. Elberton husband of Edith Gilliam Franklin died Tuesday August 10, 2010. Born in Elbert County he was a son of the late Paul Thomas "PT" Franklin and Alice Nelms Franklin. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Elberton, where he was a Sunday School teacher for 25 years and served as a past deacon, he worked for the Elberton Silk Mills for 25 years, he was owner operator of Franklins TV Service for 40 years, and he was a U.S. Army combat veteran of WWII. Survivors include his wife of the home Edith Gilliam Franklin, a son Mike Franklin of Elberton, three sisters Edna, Ola, and Ruth, grandchildren Christopher Franklin and Kimberly Carter, three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son William "Billy" Harley Franklin, four sisters, and four brothers. Funeral services will be held Thursday August 12, at 10:30 AM at the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with Rev. Luther Mahoney officiating. Burial will follow in Elmhurst Cemetery. The family will be at the home 507 Shelton Ave. and will receive friends from 9:30-10:30 AM just prior to the service at Berry Funeral Home. The family has requested please in lieu of flowers to make memorials in his honor to Samaritan's Purse P.O. Box 3000 Boone, NC 28607-3000. Berry Funeral Home is respectfully in charge of the funeral arrangements for Mr. Charles Harley Franklin.
