Mr. Charles Vernon Barger, 89, of Lexington Highway, Elberton, husband of the late Barbara Ruff Barger, passed away on Tuesday, December 18, 2018, at Elbert Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Barger was born in Rowan County, North Carolina on April 17, 1929, son of the late Claude Vernon Barger and Ruth Wylie Barger. An avid outdoorsman, “Charlie” was a retired meat cutter having owned and operated Barger Meat Processing for many years. He was a U.S. Army Veteran having served during the Korean conflict and a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his son, Wayne and Brenda Barger of Elberton; grandchildren: Luke and Brandi Barger, Holly Barger, and Hannah Barger; great-grandchildren: Haleigh, Hunter, Zay, Zurri, and Heidi; brother-in-law, Vernon Atkinson; and sisters-in-law, Theresa and W.D. Albertson, Peggy Greenway, Janet Ruff, Caroline Ruff, and Jean Ruff; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Mary Ellen Atkinson.
Funeral services celebrating his life will be held on Friday, December 21, at 2 o’clock at Falling Creek Baptist Church. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park.
The family is at the residence of Wayne and Brenda Barger and will receive friends at the church beginning at 12:30p.m.
