Charlie S. McFarlin, 91, of 1707 Ruckersville Road, Elberton, formerly of Toccoa, passed away Thursday evening, December 29, 2011, at Spring Valley Health Care Center. Mr. McFarlin was twice married, first to the late Malisse Osborn McFarlin of Toccoa and second to Kathleen Smith McFarlin of the home. Born November 27, 1920, in Franklin County, he was a son of the late Alfred and Katie Garner McFarlin. Mr. McFarlin was a member of Doves Creek Baptist Church and retired from Coats and Clark in Toccoa. Charlie was a member of the Toccoa Masonic Lodge # 309 and the Toccoa V.F.W. Post 4346. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. In addition to his wife, he leaves to cherish his memories two children, Mike McFarlin of Westminster, Colorado and Kay McFarlin Neal of Elberton; three grandchildren, Malissa Brooke Neal, Jonathon Blake Neal, and Katherine Rose Neal; brother, Billy McFarlin of Drexel, North Carolina; sister, Mazie Harrison of Toccoa; step-children, Stan Smith of Carrollton, Georgia and Ellen Gunn of Elberton; and two step-grandchildren, Eric Gunn and Keri Smith. Funeral services celebrating Charlie's life will be held at 11AM Monday, January 2, 2012, in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Douglas Huff and the Rev. Jan Thompson officiating. Graveside services will follow at 2PM in the Stephens Memorial Gardens, 6448 Big A Road, Toccoa, Georgia 30577. Al McFarlin, Milton Neal, Mark Neal, Sonny Scarborough, Ricky Harrison, and Eric Gunn will serve as pallbearers. Mr. McFarlin is at the Berry Funeral Home in Elberton where the family will recieve friends from 10-11AM Monday just prior to the service. The family is at the home, 1707 Ruckersville Road. Flowers will be greatly appreciated, and memorials may be made in his honor to Doves Creek Baptist Church, 1971 Athens Highway, Elberton, Georgia 30635 or to Vans Creek Baptist Church, 1733 Ruckersville Circle, Elberton, Georgia 30635.
