Collier 'Lump' Lunsford

Mr. Luther Collier Lunsford, 88, of 1085 Country Club Road, Elberton went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 27, 2016, after a short illness. ‘Lump’, as he was known to most of his friends, was always quick with a joke and never met a stranger. He loved his family and he loved his little ‘Sassy Girl’, who was his constant companion.

Mr. Lunsford was born on January 14, 1928, in Hart County, the son of the late Leila Gunter Lunsford and Luther Omer Lunsford. He was a member of Concord Methodist Church, Elberton. At the young age of 14, he began working in the granite industry where he worked until he retired at 80 years old. He owned Lunsford Granite in Elberton for many years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp and the Georgia National Guard, and was a Mason for over 50 years.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 62 years, Sybil Grimes Lunsford: his children: Barbara L. Krolikowski and husband George and Myra L. Woodall of Elberton; and grandchildren: Lauren Walden, Gage Krolikowski, Adrien Dickerson, Megan Krolikowski, Shane Lunsford, and Kaelan Woodall. He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends and family.

Mr. Lunsford is preceded in death by his mother, father, and son, Gary C. Lunsford. The last surviving child of his family, he is also preceded in death by his brothers and sisters: Lorene L. Gunter, Jack Lunsford, Grover Lunsford, George Lunsford, Elmer Lunsford, Sara L. Sanders, Josephine L. Sanders, and Mahlon Lunsford.

The family is at the residence at 1085 Country Club Road, Elberton, and will receive friends at Berry Funeral Home from 4:00-5:30p.m. on Tuesday, May 31.
Funeral services celebrating his life, with military honors, will be held on Tuesday, May 31, at 6:00p.m. in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with Rev. Greg Jordan and Rev. Dwight Morgan officiating. Interment will be on Wednesday at Forest Hills Memorial Park, Elberton.
