Dallas Edward Fortson

Dallas Edward “Edd” Fortson, age 94, of 1051 Oriole Lane, Danburg, GA, spouse of 71 years to the late Rachel Kincaid Fortson, ended his earthly journey Saturday, August 19, 2017.

He was born on March 4, 1923 in Madison County, GA to the late Tom Ed Fortson and Lois McConnell Fortson. He was of the Baptist Faith.

He proudly served his country in the US Navy during World War II. He retired after 37 years with Independence Life Insurance Company at which time he moved to Danburg, GA, where he loved to garden, make fig preserves, delicious pecan pies along with piddling with his many wood projects.

“Pop” as he was known to his family is survived by a son and daughter-in-law: Robert and Freida Fortson of Tignall, GA; grandchildren and their spouses: Rodney and Tracey Rogers of Hull, GA, Rene and Tod Wilson of Colbert, GA, Justin and Amanda Fortson of Elberton, GA and five great grandchildren Mallory Dean, Noah Rogers, Kendall Rogers, Will Fortson and Charlie Fortson and a brother Jack Darrell Fortson, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by a daughter Pat F. Maxey.



Funeral services to celebrate Edd’s life will be held Monday evening, August 21, at 7:30 pm in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with Rev. Laura Patterson officiating. A private burial will be in the Colbert City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 pm Monday evening at Berry Funeral Home.

 The family is at the home of Justin and Amanda Fortson, 2358 Hudson Rd., Elberton, GA.
