Darrell Blackmon

Howard 'Darrell' Blackmon, 44, of 1322 Drake Road, Elberton, passed away suddenly on Saturday, August 3, 2013, at his residence. Mr. Blackmon was born in Elbert County on August 11, 1968, to the late Howard Blackmon, Jr. and Lexie Ann Rudder Blackmon. He was a member of Bethel E Baptist Church, Elberton Elks Lodge, and owner/operator of Blackmon Construction. Darrell was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and go-kart racing. Left to cherish his memories are his son and daughter-in-law, Levi and Jamie Blackmon of Elberton; grandson, Layton Cole Blackmon; siblings and their spouses, David and Tammy Blackmon of Elberton, Dino and Susan Blackmon of Elberton, and Denise and Casey Black of Conyers; nephews and nieces, D.J. Blackmon and his wife Jamie, Hunter Blackmon, Paige Blackmon, Mia Blackmon, Kamryn Black, Khloe Black, Gavin Black, Tyler McKellar and his wife Corbin, Hali McConnell and her husband Wesley, Bo McKellar, Skyler Elgin, Scott Bonds, Kayla Bonds, and Bradley Bonds; and great-nephew, Starrett Blackmon. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his grandparents, L.V. and Frances Rudder and Howard and Ethel Blackmon. Funeral services celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, August 10, at 11:00a.m. in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Reverend Wayne Tyler and Reverend Ken Wright officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park with Scotty Boggs, Tubby Worley, Zeb Worley, Mike Johnson, Casey Rudder and Derrick Johnson serving as pallbearers. Jeff McKellar, Robert "Bojo" McKellar, Scott Porter and Perry Hosey will serve as honorary pallbearers. The Blackmon family is at the residence of David and Tammy Blackmon, 1352 Drake Road, Elberton, and will receive friends at Berry Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00p.m. on Friday evening.
