Mr. David Paul Jones, 60, of Broad River Scenic Drive, Tignall, passed away on Friday, June 4, 2021, as a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.
David was born in Abbeville, SC on September 19, 1960, son of Delma Ruth Morrow Jones and the late Jimmy Lee Jones. He was a 1978 graduate of Calhoun Falls High School and received an associates degree in industrial maintenance at Athens Technical College. David was the first chief of the Petersburg Volunteer Fire Department and was proud of his service to Elbert County as a volunteer firefighter, first responder, and member of the dive team. He was currently employed as senior mechanic at Richard B. Russell Dam Power Plant. David enjoyed playing his guitar and singing, riding motorcycles, and especially spending the day on the lake fishing. He was a member of Welcome Wesleyan Church, Fire and Iron Motorcycle Club, Pulliam-Burton VFW Post 5456, and Elks Lodge 1100.
Survivors, in addition to his mother of Elberton, include his children: Jessica Haley Jones (Cody Shull) of Martin and Jimmy Harley Jones (Briannan) of Simpsonville, SC; step-children: Chris Johnson (Holly) and Jennifer Johnson, all of Elberton; grandchildren: Walker, Caitlin, and Grant; step-mother, Lynn Dixon Jones of Tignall; siblings: Ronald Jones (Joye) of Rabun Gap and Jamie Keblish (Jason) of Elberton; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
The family is at the residence of Lynn Jones, 1355 Broad River Scenic Drive, Tignall, and will receive fiends at Berry Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00p.m. on Tuesday, June 8.
Memorial services celebrating David’s life will be held on Wednesday, June 9, at 2 o’clock in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Travis Cox officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Abbeville, SC.
Flowers are accepted; contributions may be made in his memory to Fire and Iron Motorcycle Club, % Jarrett Berryman, 44 Graham Way, Hartwell, GA 30643. Those funds are used to organize charity rides and to assist community members in a time of need, an outreach program that was very near and dear to David’s heart.
