Mrs. Deborah Michelle “Debbie” Allgood Smith, 63, of Robinwood Lane, Elberton, wife of Jeffrey Allen Smith, Sr., passed away peacefully on Monday, May 6, 2024, at Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital following a sudden illness.
Debbie was born in Elberton on December 3, 1960, daughter of the late John Kenneth Allgood and Clara Mae Tate Allgood. She was a 1979 graduate of Elbert County High School and furthered her education at Georgia College in Milledgeville and the University of Georgia in Athens.
Debbie worked in the family business, The Dairy Queen Brazier, in Elberton for many years. She was blessed with extreme artistic abilities and used those working in the granite industry as a monumental draftsperson. She loved drawing and could often be found creating sketch pads for her grandchildren to color. Debbie was an excellent baker who made many beautiful wedding cakes. She was a very selfless person who always put the needs of others before herself, and loved her family dearly.
Along with Jeff, her husband of 35 years, she is survived by her children: Allen and Jessica Smith of Martinez, Chad and Katie Smith of Bowman, Brent and Kelli Smith of Elberton, and Jade Smith of Elberton; sister, Cindy Allgood and Lee Kelley of Elberton; brother-in-law, Tony Dickerson of Elberton; sisters-in-law: Dani and Tray McDaniel of Appling and Marsha Smith of Thomson; aunts and uncles: Freida Delk of Elberton, Becky Locke of Elberton, Buddy and Sandy Tate of Sandy Springs, and Allen Black of Elberton; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Debbie is preceded in death by her parents; siblings: Pamela Dickerson and Brian Allgood; one granddaughter; and mother-in-law, Fay Parrish Smith. Her father-in-law, Walker Smith, passed away on May 7, 2024.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 18, from 10:00-10:45a.m. at Berry Funeral Home. Memorial services will follow at 11:00a.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Tim Adams officiating. Entombment will be in the Forest Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum.
