Jean ‘Diane’ Finley Owens, 64, of Elberton, Georgia went to heaven on October 23, 2013. Ms. Diane was preceded in death by her loving husband of more than thirty years, Jerry Lee Owens of Elberton, Georgia; her parents Loyd & Jeanette Finley; and her brothers, Kenny and Dennis Finley, all of Anderson, South Carolina. She is survived by her three children and six grandchildren whom she loved so dearly: son, Gregory Lee Owens and his wife Machelle Owens of Statesboro, Georgia; daughter, Tonya Diane Owens Collins and her husband Jeff Collins of Acworth, Georgia; son, Jeremy Loyd Owens and his fiancée Allison Risner of Royston, Georgia; her grandchildren, Katelyn Elizabeth Collins, Austin Lee Collins, Jerry Grant Owens, Aidan Lee Owens, Adam Nubern and his wife Lindsey Nubern, and Andrew Hendrix; brother and sister-in-law, Mark and Janet Finley of Shelby, North Carolina. Ms. Diane was born in Anderson, South Carolina on September 5, 1949. She was a long time member of Elberton Christian Church where she spent many years teaching Sunday school, singing in the choir and serving the youth of the church. Throughout her life, Ms. Diane worked for the local newspaper and in the school system. She was very involved with the caretaking of children and elderly. She recently retired in July of this year from Heardmont Nursing Home where she passionately served as the “award winning” Activities Director for over nine years. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and a graduate of T.L. Hanna High School and Forrest College in Anderson, South Carolina. The family will receive visitors on Friday, October 25, 2013 from 6:00-8:00p.m. at the Berry Funeral Home in Elberton, Georgia. Services will be held at 11:00a.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at the Berry Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Bill Eaton and Mr. Jimmy Brown will be officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park immediately following. Flowers are optional and memorials can be made to Elberton Christian Church.
