Mr. Don Fortson, 72, of Comer, Georgia passed away Sunday, September 9, 2018 at Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital. Mr. Fortson was a native of Elberton, the son of the late John Chandler Fortson and Annie Ruth Parham Fortson.He was the husband of Takako Fujita Fortson, with whom he had celebrated over 48 years of marriage.Mr. Fortson was a retired United States Navy veteran, and later worked in the textile industry.He found great pleasure in many activities, especially fishing, playing golf, and watching high school and college football games.He also was a country and western music fan, and enjoyed watching war documentaries. Mr. Fortson is survived by his wife, Takako Fortson of the home; his children: Teressa Walcott of Colbert, and Donald C. Fortson of Athens; and grandchildren: Derek Walcott and Donovan Walcott.He also leaves behind two sisters: Carolyn Barger and Dottie Wakefield; and two brothers: Wayne Fortson and Jack Fortson. In addition to his parents, Mr. Fortson was preceded in death by his sisters, Annie Lou Cornell and Johnnie Brodeur, and a brother, Marion Fortson. A graveside service with Full Military Honors was held on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the Dewy Rose Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Gary Purvis officiating. Arrangements for Mr. Don Fortson were in the care of Hicks Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Elberton.
