Doris Floyd Fortson

Mrs. Doris Floyd Fortson, 91, of Elberton, GA passed away on Sunday, November 12, 2023, at the Overlook in Toccoa, GA.

Mrs. Fortson was born in Canon, GA on April 27, 1932, daughter of the late Ernest Floyd and the late Maude Hall Floyd. She was a retired clerk having worked for Elberton Federal Savings and Loan Association. Mrs. Fortson was also a member of the Elberton First United Methodist Church where she was part of the Mary Freeman Sunday School class.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Fortson; brother, Alton Ray Floyd; and sisters, Margaret F. Floyd and Mildred F. Pace.

Survivors include her daughters, Judy Fortson Howell and husband, Larry Howell of North Augusta, SC and Peggy Fortson and husband, John Carrick of Alto, GA; grandchildren and spouses, Jennifer and Duke Walker, Jason and Rhonda Howell, Kelly and Adam Banks, Jamie and Ben Purdy, and Pepe and Tripp Edwards; and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Fortson will be held in the Pruitt Funeral Home Chapel at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, with Rev. Dr. Wallace Eugene Wheeles officiating. Interment will follow in the Elmhurst Cemetery in Elberton, GA.

The family will receive friends at Pruitt Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening. During other times the family will be at their respective homes.
