Mrs. Doris Louise Lumpkin Decker, 89, of Winston Drive, Bowman, Georgia, wife of 50 years to the late William Miller Decker, Sr., passed away on Friday, November 29, 2019, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens, Georgia
Mrs. Decker was born in Anniston, Alabama on July 10, 1930, daughter of the late Roy Leon Lumpkin and Ettie Ophelia Couch Lumpkin. She earned her Bachelor’s in education at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and was an elementary grades teacher for many years. Mrs. Doris was a devoted member of Rehoboth Baptist Church.
Survivors include her children and their spouses: William Miller, Jr. and Janet Decker of Lexington, Georgia, John Mark Decker of Bowman, Georgia, Emil Leon and Linda Decker of Dawsonville, Georgia, and Laura Ann Decker Bennett and Randal Bennett of Comer, Georgia; sister and husband: Patricia and Harvey VanDyke of Kinsport, Tennessee; seven grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her brother, Roy Leon Lumpkin, Jr.
Memorial services celebrating her life will be held on Sunday, December 8, at 2 o’clock in the Rehoboth Baptist Church, Bowman, Georgia, with the Rev. Tommy Brown officiating.
The family will greet friends immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Salvation Army would be appreciated.
