Mrs. Doris Ellen Childs Perkins, age 87, passed away on Sunday, August 6, 2017. Mrs. Perkins was born on June 24, 1930 in Elbert County, GA daughter of the late Robert Otis Childs, Sr. and Gladys Scott Childs. Mrs. Perkins had a lifelong love of learning. She graduated from First Consolidated School in Elbert County, GA in 1946 and later attended business school in Atlanta. She loved to read, especially history and had a knack for remembering dates and events. She was an upstanding Christian woman who valued her faith and her family above all else. She was lifelong member of Woodlawn United Methodist Church in Elberton and also attended Faith United Methodist and First Church (formerly Douglas St. United Methodist Church) in Cartersville. Mrs. Perkins married the love of her life Morrell in 1955 and was a resident of Bartow County for over 60 years. Together with her husband, she owned and operated numerous businesses, including Morrell’s restaurant and Childs Monument Company. She was a respected member of the community who was loved and will be greatly missed by many. Her legacy will live on in those whose lives she touched. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of fifty-seven years, Morrell Kipling Perkins Sr.; sons, Bob Cantrell and Kip Perkins; daughter, Charlotte Perkins Johnson; and brother, Robert Otis Childs, Jr. Survivors include children, Jeanette Perkins Graves, Deborah (David) Perkins Turner and Frank Lee (Karen) Perkins; grandchildren, Damon O'Connor, Reece (Kandi) Turner, Melissa (Mark) Rommelman, Trina (Mauricio) Fuentes-Graves, Lee (Dawn) Perkins, Kipling (Peyton) Turner, Phillip (Kimberley) Cantrell, Sarah Ellen (Landon) Thompson and Brittony (Michael) Sibilio; great-grandchildren, William, Olivia and McKenzie O'Connor, Carter, Emma Grace and Rahli Dee Turner, Jonathon and Terry Parker, Tyler Rommelman, Gabriel Tencate, Sophia Fuentes, Mia and Wyatt Perkins, Grace, Samuel, Benjamin and Abigail Cantrell, Nora and Joshua Thompson, Gabriel, Naomi and Alexander Sibilio; sister, Mary Frances Dixon; sister-in-law, Bernita Yeargin Childs; and a host of nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life Service was held at two o'clock in the afternoon on Friday, the 11th of August, 2017 at Woodlawn United Methodist Church. The family received friends at the church prior to service time. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in Mrs. Perkin's honor to Woodlawn United Methodist Church Building Fund, 3780 Brad Dixon Rd., Elberton, GA 30635.
