Dorris Vernon Snellings

Mr. Dorris Vernon Snellings, 92, of Elberton, Georgia passed away Saturday, February 18, 2017 at his home. Mr. Snellings was born in Elbert County December 3, 1924 to the late Duncan H. and Madge S. Snellings.He served in the US Army Air Force 1943 where he served proudly and was honorably discharged in 1946. Mr. Snellings also served in the South Pacific – Kwajalein (one of the Marshall Islands). He is a member of the Doves Creek Baptist Church, lifetime member of the VFW and Moose Lodge. Mr. Snellings retired from the Granite Industry where he was employed for 50 years. Mr. Snellings is survived by his wife, Betsy McLanahan Snellings, and children: Vernon M. Snellings, Wesley Tyler Snellings and his wife, Lory, and Celisa Snellings;and two grandchildren, Matthew V. Snellings and Wesley W. Snellings. A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Snellings was held in the Chapel of Hicks Funeral Home, Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Douglas Huff officiating. Interment followed at Elmhurst Cemetery. The family received friends Tuesday at the funeral home beginning at 2:00 p.m. just prior to service time. In lieu of flowers,memorial contributions may be made to Doves Creek Baptist Church, 1971 Athens Hwy., Elberton, GA 30635. Arrangements for Mr. Dorris Vernon Snellings were in the care of Hicks Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Elberton.
