Mrs. Dorothy “Dottie” Middleton Smith, 68, of Elberton, Georgia passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, July 2, 2015 with family and friends at her side. Mrs. Dottie was born in Oglethorpe County to the late Zeb P. and Lucille Bell Middleton.She was the precious bride of Mr. J. Marion “Pete” Smith, with whom she had joyfully celebrated over 53 years of marriage.Mrs. Dottie had been employed with Elberton Manufacturing since the age of 15, and worked there until its closing several years ago. She was a devoted and faithful member of Falling Creek Baptist Church. Mrs. Dottie enjoyed life to its fullest, with shopping being one of her favorite pastimes. In addition to her husband, Pete,Mrs. Dottie is survived by a son-in-law,Jimmy Barker, and two grandchildren, Miles Barker and Addison Barker, all of Elberton;and a sister, Reba Bell of Elberton.She also leaves behind a host of special friends and family, and her life-long boss and dear friend, Mr. Harry Konfino. Mrs. Dottie was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Tammi Smith Barker; two sisters, Mary Guest and Betty Bradley; and two brothers: Bobby Fritz and Carl Grimes. A service to celebrate Mrs. Smith’s life was held on Sunday, July 5, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. in The Chapel of Hicks Funeral Home with Reverends Dwight Morgan, Paul Paramore, and Jack McVeigh officiating.Visitation for family and friends was Sunday afternoon, just prior to the service.
